The Friend of Silence

In this age of technology, it's especially easy to get catch up in the noise of the world. The Church presents us the season of Lent, not only as a period of fasting and alms-giving, but as as a special time to draw back from distraction, refocusing our lives on Christ. Why is silence vital for our spiritual lives? Perhaps Blessed Theresa of Calcutta expressed it best.

"We need to find God, and He cannot be found in noise and restlessness. God is the friend of silence. See how nature--trees, flowers, grass--grows in silence; see the stars, the moon and the sun, how they move in silence... We need silence to be able to touch souls."

Happy Lent, all!
